The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program will be returning to the Terrebonne Parish Main Library to provide free tax filing assistance to low-income families. Starting from February 6 to April 9, excluding February 13, the program will operate on a first-come, first-served basis every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

"Families making less than $60,000 per year qualify for assistance with simple returns for wages, Social Security, and retirement income," said a representative from the program. The VITA program also extends its help to other eligible taxpayers, such as older adults, individuals with disabilities, and those with limited English-speaking experience.

To further assist taxpayers, limited copies of Form 1040, the standard U.S. Individual Income Tax Return form, are available for free at each library in Terrebonne Parish. Additionally, individuals can visit mytpl.org/tax-information for resources to print copies of Form 1040, order state income tax forms, or access free sites to file federal tax returns electronically.

The success of this program is due to the collaboration between the Terrebonne Parish Library System, Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Houma Thibodaux, and the Internal Revenue Service.

For individuals seeking more information or wanting to get in touch with the program, they can contact Rachel LeCompte at rlecompte@mytpl.org or call 985-876-5861 ext. 242.

This valuable initiative serves as a significant opportunity for low-income families and eligible taxpayers to receive the necessary support in filing their taxes, ensuring they can meet their obligations without incurring additional expenses.
