The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office announced on Apr. 24 the arrest of Steven Burnette Turner, Jr., age 34, of Napoleonville, Louisiana, on felony theft and other charges following a traffic stop.
According to the announcement, the case began when the Louisiana Workforce Commission referred a complaint about unemployment benefits totaling $2,406 received by an individual residing in Assumption Parish. Detectives assigned to investigate determined that Turner applied for and was granted unemployment benefits from July 26 through December 13, 2025. Authorities said that although Turner became re-employed with a company on August 20, he did not report his employment status and continued to receive benefits.
Following their investigation, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Turner. The sheriff’s office reports that early Friday morning a Louisiana State Trooper stopped Turner for traffic violations and discovered he was wanted for felony theft by Assumption Parish authorities.
Turner was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on several charges: driving while intoxicated (first offense), driving under a suspended driver’s license, improper lane usage, and felony theft pursuant to the warrant from the sheriff’s office. His bond has been set at $5,000.
