The Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office announced on April 30 that a scam is circulating through social media and text messages, falsely claiming to be from the Louisiana Department of Motor Vehicles. The notice tells recipients they have outstanding traffic offenses and urges them to pay fines immediately or risk having their vehicle registration canceled and driver’s license suspended.

Officials say the message includes a link for payment, but warn that this is not legitimate. According to the announcement, providing personal information or making payments through the provided link will result in financial loss due to fraud.

“THIS IS A SCAM! Responding and going to the link and providing any of your personal information will result in you being scammed out of money. If you receive this message, please totally disregard,” said officials from the Assumption Parish Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant against such scams and not respond to suspicious messages claiming urgent action is needed regarding official matters like traffic violations. They recommend verifying any claims directly with government agencies before taking further steps.

The sheriff’s office continues efforts to inform the public about common tactics used by scammers in order to prevent residents from becoming victims.
