Two individuals were arrested following a traffic stop on U.S. 90 near Amelia, according to Assumption Parish Sheriff Leland Falcon. The incident occurred Wednesday evening when a patrol deputy from the Sheriff’s I.C.E. detail observed a westbound vehicle committing a traffic violation and attempted to initiate a stop.
The vehicle reportedly tried to evade law enforcement before deputies, with assistance from another unit, managed to safely bring it to a halt. Authorities identified the driver as Lazerick D. Seymour, 24, of Baker, Louisiana, and the passenger as Aileen Niknami, 38, of Breaux Bridge.
After an officer violator interview with Seymour, deputies placed him under arrest. When deputies tried to interview Niknami, she was described as evasive and did not follow instructions. She was subsequently arrested.
Deputies determined that Niknami was in the United States illegally. She was booked into the Assumption Parish Detention Center on charges of resisting an officer and detainer by Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Her bond for resisting an officer was set at $2,500; she is being held without bond on the ICE detainer pending deportation.
Seymour faces charges including failure to drive on the right side of the roadway, flight from an officer, and resisting an officer. He was released after posting a $7,500 bond.
