Sheriff Craig Webre announced on May 14 that the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office Corrections Department is preparing for an audit by the American Correctional Association (ACA) as part of efforts to renew accreditation for the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex and Transitional Work Program.

The upcoming audit, scheduled for June 1-5, 2026, will assess whether both facilities continue to meet nationally established expected practices. The Transitional Work Program has maintained ACA accreditation since 2004, while the Correctional Complex received its initial accreditation in 2021.

Both facilities are voluntarily seeking reaccreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Corrections. As part of this process, they must demonstrate compliance with a set of standards recognized across correctional institutions. Members of the public or interested parties may submit information relevant to compliance by emailing SAC@aca.org or sending written correspondence to the American Correctional Association’s office in Alexandria, Virginia. Submissions must be received at least ten working days before the start of the audit.

“The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office holds itself to the highest standards,” said Sheriff Webre. “This accreditation process provides direction and best practices for our correctional facilities. We look forward to the ACA audit to ensure we are operating within those best practices and receive input on how we can further improve.”

The Commission on Accreditation for Corrections and its parent organization, the American Correctional Association, are private non-profit entities responsible for directing accreditation programs in corrections across both United States and international settings.

The results of this upcoming audit will determine if both Lafourche Parish correctional facilities maintain their accredited status and continue their commitment to nationally recognized standards.
