Raceland man arrested for attempted murder after shooting incident

A Raceland man has been arrested and charged with attempted murder following an incident on Morristown Road, according to Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre. The suspect, identified as Amos Washington, 41, was taken into custody on Sunday.

Authorities responded to a call just after 3:30 p.m. on March 1, 2026. According to the sheriff’s office, Washington was involved in an argument with another man before arming himself with a handgun and firing two shots in the direction of the other individual. The intended victim was not hit and retreated inside his home while Washington left the area.

Deputies were able to locate Washington shortly after the incident. He was arrested and faces charges of attempted second degree murder as well as possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Bail for Washington has been set at $300,000.
