The National Weather Service in New Orleans has issued an update regarding the risk of flash flooding in the area. According to the latest information, there will be scattered showers and a few storms today, with some potentially being locally heavy in the northwest areas.
However, the main concern arises from Wednesday through Friday, as storms are expected to become more widespread and slow down or train over the same areas. This increases the risk of flash flooding across the entire region, with the highest confidence for flash flooding being from near Baton Rouge, LA to McComb, MS and northwards.
It is important to note that there is also the possibility of a few storms becoming locally strong to severe on Wednesday and Thursday. This could result in damaging winds and isolated tornadoes.
The heavy thunderstorms are expected to persist throughout Friday, with the last round pushing through on Saturday and exiting to the east thereafter. As a result, rises on area rivers and streams can be expected, and smaller tributaries may even reach minor flood stages.
In light of this forecast, it is crucial for residents in the affected areas to stay informed and take necessary precautions. The National Weather Service advises everyone to monitor local weather updates and be prepared for the possibility of flash flooding.
