Terrebonne Parish is taking proactive measures to enhance its resilience against natural disasters by submitting grant applications for various projects. The Parish has conducted public meetings to gather input and identify the needs of the community. Through these meetings, the Parish aims to prioritize funding to mitigate the impact of events such as floods, hurricanes, and tornadoes.

One of the key projects the Parish intends to pursue funding for is the development of a Dynamic Simulation Model. This model will analyze the effects of specific developments on the floodplain, helping to identify potential changes in flood risks. The Parish seeks funding from the FEMA Flood Mitigation Assistance (FMA) program for this initiative.

In addition to the Dynamic Simulation Model, the Parish will also submit FEMA applications on behalf of residents and business owners who require assistance with elevation and reconstruction projects. These projects aim to enhance the resilience of properties and infrastructure, ensuring the safety and well-being of the community.

Furthermore, the Parish plans to submit applications for other crucial projects. This includes the replacement of the Brady Bridge Road, the upgrade of natural gas pipelines in the Parish Utilities service areas, and a collaborative effort with Entergy to strengthen distribution lines in the Montegut area. The Parish Council has already approved the Entergy grid hardening project after a public hearing.

These projects have been carefully selected and submitted for various funding opportunities. The Parish recognizes the importance of securing funding from multiple sources to ensure the successful implementation of these initiatives. By doing so, Terrebonne Parish is taking proactive steps to minimize disruptions to families and businesses during and after natural disasters.

For those seeking additional information or wishing to provide comments on the pending applications, the Parish Recovery Assistance Division can be contacted at 985-873-6565. The division will provide further details on the projects and other available programs.

In the pursuit of resilience, Terrebonne Parish is demonstrating its commitment to safeguarding the community and building a more resilient future. Through strategic grant applications and collaborative efforts, the Parish aims to enhance its capacity to withstand and recover from the adverse impacts of natural disasters.
