The Terrebonne Parish Consolidated Government Section 8 Rental Assistance Program has announced that it will be accepting applications on January 24, 2024. Interested individuals can apply between 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Dumas Auditorium in Houma, Louisiana.

To be eligible for the program, applicants must qualify for the Displaced Public Housing preference. It is important to note that verification of this preference must be presented at the time of intake, as applications without proper documentation will not be accepted.

The eligibility guidelines for the program are based on the number of individuals in the household and the annual gross income. The income thresholds range from $25,750 for a household of one to $848,550 for a household of eight.

In addition to the Displaced Public Housing preference, there are several local preferences that applicants may qualify for. These include the Working preference, which requires documentation such as check stubs for the past three months, and the Disabled preference, which requires a Social Security award letter or a statement from a physician. The Local Residency preference requires a current State of LA photo ID with a physical address, and the Honorably Discharged Veteran preference requires discharge papers.

For those who were previously occupying public housing and were displaced as a result of Hurricane Ida, there is a specific preference called the Displaced Public Housing Resident preference. Documentation from the previous public housing agency is required to qualify for this preference.

It is important to note that the Section 8 Rental Assistance Program is not an emergency assistance program. All eligible applications will be placed on the Section 8 waiting list based on local preferences and the date and time of receipt. Applicants will be notified of the decision regarding their application via mail.

If you have any questions about the Terrebonne Parish Section 8 Program or the application process, you can contact them at 985-219-2912.
