The National Weather Service (NWS) has provided an update on the heavy rain threat for the upcoming week. According to the latest information, there will be a marginal risk and slight risk of heavy rain that could potentially lead to isolated flash flooding.
The heavy rain is expected to occur from Tuesday through Wednesday night, with the possibility of additional rounds of storms throughout the rest of the week and into the weekend. The areas mainly at risk are northwest of a line from New Roads to Crosby on Tuesday and Tuesday night, and the entire area on Wednesday and Wednesday night. After that, rain, locally heavy at times, is possible across the rest of the area and into the weekend.
"We are confident multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms will move across the area possibly beginning as early as Tuesday morning and into the weekend," stated the NWS. However, they also mentioned that there is less confidence in the exact amounts of rainfall, as some of the rounds of storms could mostly remain west and northwest of the area, keeping the heaviest rain out of the area at times.
The current forecast predicts rainfall of 3 to 6 inches, with the possibility of locally higher amounts. This could result in ponding of water in low-lying areas and a potential for localized flash flooding. The NWS also highlighted the potential impact on area rivers, stating, "If the higher totals are realized, then we can expect to see rises on area rivers, with minor flooding possible."
It is important for residents in the affected areas to stay informed about the weather conditions and take necessary precautions. The NWS will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed.
