The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an update regarding the heavy rain expected to impact the area from Tuesday through Wednesday night. According to the NWS, there is a "MARGINAL RISK and SLIGHT RISK" of heavy rain that could lead to isolated flash flooding.
The forecast calls for widespread rainfall of 3 to 6 inches, with locally higher amounts possible. The initial band of rain may arrive later than expected, possibly starting on Tuesday instead of tonight. While there have been no major changes from the previous update, the highest amounts have been slightly lowered.
"We are confident multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms will move across the area, possibly beginning as early as Tuesday and then on and off into the weekend," stated the NWS. However, they also noted that there is less confidence in the specific amounts, as some rounds of storms could remain west and northwest of the area, keeping the heaviest rain out of the region at times.
The potential impacts of this heavy rain include ponding of water in low lying areas and the potential for localized flash flooding. Additionally, if the higher rainfall totals are realized, rises on area rivers and minor flooding will be possible.
