The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a short-term hazardous weather update for January 25, 10:35AM. According to the update, a strong line of storms is currently moving eastward and is expected to exit the area this afternoon. The storms are moving fast enough to minimize the heavy rainfall threat. However, isolated brief gusty winds along the line of storms, high winds over waters, and brief intense rainfall rates are still expected.
"We're confident the line will progress eastward and exit the area by the afternoon, but we're less confident that we will see severe weather with the line or that it will slow down," says the NWS.
Once the line of storms clears the area, only light to moderate rain is expected behind it. There will be a break in the weather until after midnight tonight.
The NWS has provided additional information and resources for the public to stay informed and prepared. These include the NWS New Orleans website (www.weather.gov/neworleans), the NWS New Orleans DSS website (http://www.weather.gov/lix/embrief), river gauges and forecasts (http://water.weather.gov/ahps2/index.php?wfo=lix), the NWS New Orleans Facebook page (www.facebook.com/NWSNewOrleans), the NWS New Orleans Twitter account (https://twitter.com/NWSNewOrleans), online severe weather reporting (https://www.weather.gov/lix/submit_storm_report), and the Storm Prediction Center website (www.spc.noaa.gov).
As the storms continue to move eastward, it is crucial for residents in the affected areas to stay updated with the latest weather information and heed any warnings or advisories issued by the NWS. Stay safe and prepared during this hazardous weather event.
