The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued an update regarding the ongoing heavy rain and gusty winds expected throughout the evening and into tonight. According to the NWS, there have been some changes since the morning update.
A Wind Advisory is now in effect for coastal areas until midnight. This means that residents in these areas should be prepared for potentially strong winds that could cause some hazards.
Furthermore, the Gale Warning has been expanded westward to include all Gulf waters. This means that boaters and mariners should exercise caution as the strong winds could create hazardous conditions at sea.
The main concern at the moment is the heavy rain that continues to persist across the Southshore and northshore locations. Rainfall rates of 1 to 3 inches have been reported in these areas. As a result, a Flood Advisory is currently in effect for portions of the Southshore until 8 PM. The NWS will be closely monitoring the situation for any additional flooding potential throughout the evening.
In addition to the heavy rain, gusty winds are also a persistent issue. The strongest winds are primarily along the coast. The NWS has therefore issued a Wind Advisory for coastal areas. Residents in these areas should take precautions and secure any loose objects that could be blown away by the strong winds.
While the back edge of the precipitation shield is approaching from the west, the NWS is keeping a close eye on the potential for another round of strong, gusty winds on the back side as most areas dry out overnight tonight into early Sunday. This means that even as the rain subsides, there is a possibility of continued windy conditions.
It is important for residents in the affected areas to stay informed and follow any instructions or warnings issued by the NWS or local authorities. Taking necessary precautions during severe weather events can help ensure the safety of individuals and minimize any potential damage.
As always, the NWS will continue to provide updates as the situation unfolds.
