Fewer students enrolled in Terrebonne Parish’s only school district in 2021-22 school year

The only school district in Terrebonne Parish suffered declining enrollment in the 2021-22 school year, according to the Louisiana Department of Education.

There were 14,908 students in the halls of Terrebonne Parish School District schools, 11.5% lower than the year before.

Enrollment in Terrebonne Parish was steady compared to the state’s trend of decreasing enrollment.

Out of all the students welcomed in the 2021-22 school year, 52.1% of them were boys, and 47.9% were girls.

The most represented ethnicity among Terrebonne Parish School District students was white, accounting for 47.3% of the student population.

Terrebonne Parish School District has a main office in Houma and is the only school district within Terrebonne Parish.

Only 22% of Louisiana’s teachers are Black or Latino, compared to about 48% of the state's K–12 students who identify as either race.

In 2022, there was roughly one teacher for every 18 students in Louisiana, which is worse than the national average of one teacher for every 16 students.
