Terrebonne Parish officials have announced an aerial mosquito spraying operation scheduled for October 27 to 29. The initiative aims to reduce mosquito numbers ahead of Halloween festivities. Weather permitting, the spraying will occur from 6:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. each night. If delays arise, operations will resume on the next suitable evening.
The areas targeted for spraying include parts of East Houma, West Houma, Dularge, Dulac, Chauvin, Cocodrie, and Montegut.
VDCI will conduct the operation using twin-engine aircraft flying at approximately 300 feet altitude. These aircraft are equipped with an aerial spray guidance system designed specifically for mosquito control. VDCI will apply an EPA-approved product suitable for residential areas, municipalities, and agricultural zones. The planes can receive real-time meteorological data such as temperature and wind conditions to optimize application.
"The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requires notification to the public when aerial spray operations are to occur."
For more information or maps of the spray area, contact VDCI at 985-580-1629 or 800-256-1784.
