The Terrebonne Parish Library has introduced a new initiative titled "Caught You Reading," scheduled to launch in 2025. This campaign is designed to emphasize the significance and enjoyment of reading by capturing spontaneous moments of individuals engaged with books during their everyday activities, whether at work, home, on public transport, or any quiet place where they choose to read.

The library emphasizes that reading is essential and offers various benefits. It enhances vocabulary, stimulates the brain, improves focus, encourages creativity, and provides relaxation for both mind and body. For children especially, cultivating strong reading habits can lead to improved academic performance and lifelong learning advantages.

Mary Cosper LeBoeuf, Director of the Terrebonne Parish Library, stated: “With the removal of librarians in schools, children are at a disadvantage to learn to enjoy reading. A teacher teaches the skill of reading; a librarian and parent teach the joy of reading.”

As part of this campaign, the library plans to promote reading through social media channels, its website (www.mytpl.org), and local billboards. Additionally, weekly storytimes and interactive activities will be available at all library branches to familiarize children with the library environment and demonstrate that books and reading can be entertaining.

Community members are encouraged to subscribe to the library's monthly newsletter online at www.mytpl.org or obtain a copy from any library branch for updates on upcoming events and activities.

For further details about the "Caught You Reading" campaign or other library programs, interested parties can contact Joel Ohmer, Communications Coordinator at Terrebonne Parish Library via phone at 985-876-5861 ext 236.
