Registration for the Louisiana Fortify Homes Program (LFHP) grants will commence at 8 a.m. on February 12 and close at 5 p.m. on February 16. The selection process will be conducted through a lottery system.
Homeowners interested in participating must register within this five-day window. Those who registered in previous rounds but were not selected need to re-register for the upcoming round. All registrants, regardless of when they register within the period, have an equal chance of being selected.
To enter the lottery, homeowners are required to create a profile on the LFHP website (ldi.la.gov). Those with existing profiles can use them for current and future registrations.
Following the registration period, 1,000 participants will be randomly chosen and notified via email. This grant round is available only to residents in Louisiana's Coastal Zone and specific areas including Lake Charles, Sulphur, and Westlake.
Commissioner Tim Temple stated: "With over 1,800 FORTIFIED roof grants issued since the program began in 2023, the LFHP is making Louisiana a more attractive place for insurers to do business and encouraging other homeowners to fortify their homes without a grant."
Selected homeowners will bear financial responsibility for evaluation by a FORTIFIED-certified Evaluator as well as any additional costs beyond the grant amount for roof upgrades.
Eligibility requirements include having an active residential insurance policy with wind coverage and proof of homestead exemption. Homes must also meet certain repair standards set by a FORTIFIED Evaluator.
The LFHP offers grants up to $10,000 aimed at helping homeowners upgrade roofs according to standards established by the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety. This initiative aims to enhance resilience against hurricane-force winds.
