Keep Terrebonne Beautiful will host a "Bucket for the Bayou" cleanup event as part of Love the Boot Week. This initiative, organized in collaboration with Terrebonne General Health System's Market at the Marina, is scheduled for Saturday, April 5, 2025, from 8 AM to 12 PM.
Participants can visit the Keep Terrebonne Beautiful table at the Market to collect a bucket, grabber, and gloves for litter collection. Those who return with filled buckets will receive a prize as an appreciation gesture.
"We invite everyone to join us in making a difference," said Billie Babin Richard, Executive Director of Keep Terrebonne Beautiful. "Events like this empower our community to take action against litter, protecting our environment and waterways for future generations."
Love the Boot Week is Louisiana’s largest litter cleanup and beautification effort organized by Keep Louisiana Beautiful with support from the Office of the Lieutenant Governor. It will span all 64 parishes from April 5 to 13, 2025. The event focuses on combating litter pollution and fostering environmental responsibility.
Louisiana spends over $91.4 million annually on litter abatement despite ongoing pollution challenges affecting wildlife and water quality. Initiatives like "Bucket for the Bayou" aim to raise awareness and inspire change.
“Picking up litter is important, but litter education is the primary goal of Love the Boot Week,” says Susan Russell, Executive Director of Keep Louisiana Beautiful. “If we can all learn the repercussions of litter and adopt behaviors to prevent it from happening in the first place, we will see a cleaner, greener Louisiana.”
After Love the Boot Week concludes, an outcomes report detailing volunteer participation and waste collection results will be published by Keep Louisiana Beautiful.
